These commonly asked Questions and Answers apply to Bombay Emerald Chutneys, Samosa, Kofta, Saag, Rajma, Roti Roll and our Ayurvedic Spices exclusively.

Q. What is chutney?

Chutney is a perfectly blended mixture of spices, fruits, and herbs.

Q. What size is the jar?

Each chutney is in a 6 oz jar.

Q. Are these chutneys, Samosa, Kofta, Saag, and Rajma Kosher?

We are not certified Kosher but our products are pure vegetarian and vegan. These products are produced in a kitchen where I don't share pots, pans, utensils, etc with any other producer.

Q. Are these chutneys, Samosa, Kofta, Saag, and Rajma Organic?

Our products are not certified Organic. Some of our ingredients like tomatoes, peas, potatoes, spinach are organic. Because not all ingredients are organic, we can't label our products as organic.

Q. What will I do with these chutneys?

Use these chutneys hot or cold.

Brush on the top of the meat and cook on the stove /grill/barbeque/bake/broil.

Stir fry/Saute any vegetable(s) using either chutney.

Add to plain yogurt/Sour cream to create your own cooking sauce/marinade, simmer sauce, salad dressing or dip.

Spread on sandwiches, use on wraps, pita pockets, etc.

Dip sliced vegetables or fruits in these chutneys.

Add these chutneys to rice, beans, eggs, soups, pasta, etc.

Try Royal Pomegranate chutney on the plain vanilla ice-cream.

There are no rules in using these chutneys, just use them as you please.

Q. How long will they stay fresh once opened?

Please refrigerate a chutney jar once opened. These chutneys stay fresh for two weeks under normal refrigerator conditions. Please clean the rim of the jar before closing the cap. Note: Since 2004 (start of business), I have not received any complains.

Q. How long may I store a jar of chutney if unopened?

These chutneys are good for nine months if unopened. Please store unopened jars in the pantry/cupboard, away from direct sunlight.

Q. I can buy chutneys on line but don't see buy button for frozen samosa, kofta, saag, and rajma on line?

Sorry. It is very expensive to ship frozen products; therefore, there is no option to buy the frozen products on line.

Q. Where can I buy Frozen Samosas, Saag, Kofta, and Rajma?

You can buy our frozen samosa, kofta, saag, and rajma at the various farmers' market, we participate in. We also deliver our frozen products as well as chutneys, and ayurvedic spices within 40 miles radius of New York zipcode 10598.

Q. Do you deliver?

Yes. We deliver within 40 miles radius of Zipcode 10598 for a fixed charge.

Q. What are the delivery charges?

There is a flat fee of $13.00 per delivery plus any tolls.

Q. Are your products fermented?

None of our products are fermented.

Q. Is there vinegar in your products?

None of our products have vinegar.

Q. What kind of oil is used in frozen items?

We use olive oil in our frozen products - samosa, kofta, saag, rajma. Kofta also have corn oil. We don't use vegetable oil.

Q. How to cook the samosas?

Keep them frozen and thaw before preparation. To thaw, place these frozen samosas on a plate before you are ready to start preheating the oven, toaster oven, or oil. It requires only about 15 minutes of thawing at room temperature.

Preparation Instructions: Oven / Toaster Oven: Preheat your oven/toaster oven to *400 F. Spread the frozen Samosas on a lightly greased pan. Brush or spray Samosas lightly with vegetable oil. Bake for 10 -15 minutes on each side until golden brown.

Deep Frying: Preheat oil to *400 F. Depending on the size of the pan, gently fry the frozen Samosas for 7 - 10 minutes or until golden and crisp. Drain any excess oil on a paper towel.

Serve with BECC’s variety of chutneys: Royal Plum, Royal Mint, Royal Tomato, Royal Cranberry or Royal Pomegranate.

* Please adjust the temperature based on your oven/toaster oven/fryer. My preference is deep frying.


Q. What is Kofta and how to use them?

Product Description This healthy Soup is prepared as if it was being served in my own home. Within minutes you will experience what my family has been for generations.

This Royal Kofta is like no other you have ever eaten.

Q. What is saag and how to use it?

Saag is a spinach-based dish with a variety of spices and has the consistency of a thick, rich sauce. It has lots of antioxidants and is an excellent base for other ingredients such as lamb, chicken, beef, tofu, and Indian paneer.

My Royal Saag is prepared with the same TLC that I use in my own home with my family. Within minutes of trying my saag, you will experience what my family has been devouring for generations.
 You can taste, smell, and feel the freshness in every bite of this saag.

My saag is all natural, fresh, local, vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free.

It is prepared with fresh spinach, tomatoes, chickpeas, and has been mildly spiced.

Heat and eat it as is.
 Or, to make it more satisfying and robust, add vegetables, paneer, tofu, diced chicken/lamb, etc.. It is delicious with rice, any type of bread, couscous, bulgar wheat, and quinoa. Saag offers the perfect base for any kind of stew.

Q. What is Rajma and how to use it?

While most folks are familiar with Chili, few know about the Indian version, commonly referred to as Rajma.

Royal Rajma is a vegan, fresh, and all natural stew made of kidney beans, tomatoes, and exotic spices.

It tastes exquisite on top of steamed rice, mashed potatoes, nachos, or stuffed in a burrito.

You can simply heat it up and eat it as a stew with crackers or you can add other veggies or meats/tofu.

It is enjoyed with rice, any type of bread, couscous, bulgar wheat, and quinoa.

Savory Rajma is enjoyed throughout North India and now, you can serve it in your very own kitchen.

It is the perfect, quick idea for lunch or dinner, any day of the week.

Q. How long can Rajma stay fresh?

Q. What is Roti Roll?

Roti Roll is a flat Indian whole wheat bread. Cooked seasonal vegetable is rolled by hand in the roti.

Q. How is Roti Roll eaten?

You can eat it cold or warm.

Use a frying pan over the stove, toaster oven or regular oven or microwave to warm the roti roll. For microwave - remove the foil, wrap the roti roll into a kitchen paper towel, heat it for a minute. Frying pan over the stove - warm the pan, remove the foil, place the roti roll in the frying pan/skillet, heat both sides by flipping. Oven - remove the label but don't remove the foil, heat the roti roll for 10 - 15 minutes at 350 degrees.* * Please thaw the roti roll if it was frozen before following the above ways to warm the roti roll.

You can use our chutneys with the roti roll.

Q. How long can roti Roll stay fresh?

Store Roti Roll in the fridge. It is good to eat for 3 -4 days from the date it is bought. If frozen, it is good for couple of months in the freezer.

Q. How do I use your Ayurvedic Spices?

All our spices can be use by adding the required amount to hot oil/butter/ghee. Add it to your food or add food to it.

Q. What is the size of your Ayurveduc spices?

All our ayurvedic spices come in a glass 1.5 oz jar.

Q. Can I buy a gift Box of all the twelve Ayurvedic Spices?

Yes. Gift Box will be ready to give out.

Q. Can I use these ayurvedic spices in any combination?

You can use these ayurvedic spices in any combination.

You can combine Cardamom, clove, ginger, and fennel to add to tea/water/coffee/milk hot or cold.

Add any of the 12 ayurvedic spice to your food while cooking.

Cardamom, clove, fennel, and ginger are also used in desserts and teas.

All our ayurvedic spices are used in cooking vegetables, bean/lentil, rice, chicken/fish curries, and bread. Add to salad and yogurt.

Q. Are these ayurvedic spices whole or grounded?

Cardamom, Clove, Fennel, Cumin, Thymol, and Fenugreek Ayurvedic Spices are freshly grounded.

Black Salt, Coriander Powder, Curry Powder, Gram Masala, Turmeric, and Ginger are powdered.

Gram Masala and Curry Powder are mixture of many ayurvedic spices.

Q. What is the relationship between these spices and Doshas?

Vata: Coriander Powder, Cumin, Curry Powder, Ginger, Gram Masala, Fennel, Turmeric

Pita: Cardamom, Coriander Powder, Cumin, Curry Masala, Fennel, Gram Masala, Turmeric, Cardamom

Kapha: Coriander Powder, Clove, Cumin, Curry Powder, Fenugreek, Ginger, Gram Masala, Thymol, Turmeric

Q. What are the properties of these ayurvedic spices?

Black Salt: Indian black salt is considered a cooling spice in ayurvedic medicine and is recommended for many health issues such as constipation, indigestion, heartburn, bloating, flatulence, goiter, poor eyesight and hysteria, according to the book “Herbs that Heal.” In India, black salt is sometimes recommended to people on low-salt diets due to hypertension because it’s believed to be lower in sodium content compared to regular table salt.

Cardamom: This versatile spice is included in a wide range of dishes, from Indian curries to desserts and teas. It’s believed to counteract stomach acidity, stimulate appetite, ease nausea, cure bad breath, and relieve gas and bloating.

Clove: The active compounds in clove lend it anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties. It is also has anti-inflammatory effects and has been studied for use in aiding detoxification from environmental pollutants.

Coriander Powder: Contain many plant-derived chemical compounds that are known to have been anti-oxidant, disease preventing, and health promoting properties.

Cumin: As a traditional herbal remedy its uses include: diuretic (helps the body shed water), relieve diarrhea and bowel spasms, relieve morning sickness, and ease carpal tunnel syndrome.

Curry Powder: Consuming curry powder in your diet on a regular basis may provide cancer-preventive benefits, may help lower cholesterol and prevent cholesterol gallstones by virtue of one of its constituent spices.

Fennel: Not only loaded with powerful antioxidants fennel also contains fiber, folate, potassium, and vitamin C. It is believed to boost the immune system, reduce blood pressure, and aid in detoxification of the body. It contains compounds that help relieve smooth muscle spasms, which in effect, helps ease abdominal cramping and spasms. Fennel is also a mild appetite suppressant.

Fenugreek: Like many of the other herbs and spices used in Indian cooking, the ground seeds of fenugreek have anti-inflammatory properties and aid digestion. Fenugreekine, a chemical found in these seeds, are also believed to reduce blood sugar levels and have been used as natural supplement for use with insulin. Fenugreek is also a potent expectorant, and is used for natural remedies to ease congestion, allergies, and bronchitis.:

Ginger: Ginger is packed with many active compounds, including gingerols, zingibain, bisabolenel, oleoresins, zingiberole, just to list a few. It’s many proven uses: naturally treat nausea from morning sickness, treat nausea related to motion sickness (found to be more effective than Dramamine, without the side-effects), anti-inflammatory properties help ease muscle and joint pain. It also has a diaphoretic property (causes sweating) and so is used to cleanse and detoxify the body, stimulate circulation, and ease bronchitis and congestion.

Gram Masala: Laxative, antispasmodic, carminative (prevents formation of gas), antiflatulent, anti-helminthic and anti-tussive (cough suppressants). Remedy for dyspepsia, diarrhea, flatulence, nausea and vomiting, antimicrobial. Antiemetic and stomachic (serves to tone the stomach, improves function and increases appetite), anti-microbial, vermifuge (expels intestinal worms), diuretic. Corrects digestive disorders, expectorant, anti-flatulent. Astringent, prevent colic and diarrhea, benefit the spleen and relieve any bad cold.

Thymol: The active principles in it may help increase the digestive function of the intestinal tract by increasing gut juices (gastro-intestinal secretions).

Turmeric: Often called the “King of Spices” turmeric is an essential ingredient to the mix of spices known by most of us as curry. Its primary antioxidant, curcumin: is an essential ingredient for liver detox, and is also a natural arthritis treatment for its anti-inflammatory effects. The latest scientific studies are showing that turmeric may also be a promising diet aid that fights belly fat by inhibiting the growth of fat cells.
